Decorating your Under The Sea Party
To decorate your house or garden for a Sea Party you may use sea shells, blue balloons, paper or plastic fish. Hang lots of navy blue crepe streamers from one wall to another to resemble the sea’s waves! You can also hang several sea animal pinatas from the ceiling. With the “waves” and fish pinatas over their heads kids will definitely feel it’s a party under the sea!
Dressing Up for a Sea Party
Dressing up as a parrotfish is great fun, because of all the colors. Just use colorful leggings together with a bright colored T-shirt. Make the fin out of wire covered with cloth and use face paints to finish off the outfit!
For those who are not too keen on dressing up, they can come up as diver, with shorts, t-shirts, snorkel, mask and flippers!
Under The Sea Party Games
Swimming Through Reefs
Hang long strips of white crepe streamers from the ceiling, almost touching the floor. Use nylon to hang see shells at different heights, just making sure kids will reach them. Have kids make 2 teams and form a line for each team. On the word “Go” the first kid of each team will run to the “reef”, catch a shell for their team and run back to their team’s line. Then the next kid will have to go to the reef and get a shell, and so on. The winning team is the one that ends first, all players with one shell in hand! Our 9” long plush fish make great prizes for winners!
Play Sardines
For this game you will need to switch the main lights off, or draw the curtains if in daylight. One kid will be IT, most probably the birthday child, and he/she will go and hide while the other ones count to 60, eyes shut and facing to a wall. They have to find the hidden one and join him or her in the hiding place, making sure the others do not see where they are hiding! It goes on until there is only one kid left alone. It is important that each kid should seek separately, and not in one pack. Younger kids can hunt in pairs if they prefer.
Sea Treasure
Throw some bead necklaces into a small plastic swimming pool or large bowl filled with water. Kids will have to catch the treasure out of the water with their mouths! For younger kids, you can make fishing poles with sticks and wire for the hook, making sure you leave no sharp ends on the wire.
Ocean Pinata
There is no party without its pinata, and what else than a beautiful mermaid pinata, cute seahorse pinata, shark, whale, dolphin or any of our fish pinatas! View all Sea Animals Pinatas >
Fill your pinata with candy, grow in the water sea animals and sea creatures confetti!
Under the Sea Party Crafts
Paper Crabs
Provide for each child 10 red pipe cleaners and one paper plate and markers. Help kids make ten holes around the outside of the paper plate using a hole punch. Then they must loop about 1 inch of the pipe cleaner into each hole. Twist the longer piece with the shorter one you looped into the hole, and repeat ten times. Bending the pipe cleaners will give the effect of a walking crab. Color the crab as you wish.
Under the Sea Party Recipes
Needless to say, fish fingers are on the menu! Shell pasta salad with peas and sweet corn will be the perfect side dish.
Here’s a fun idea for the cake! Make 1 pack of blue jelly in advance and pour into a round container with flat bottom, approx. 10” in diameter. Put in the fridge.
The day of the party make a vanilla cake in a 10” diameter pan. When the cake has cooled place the “sheet” of jelly on top of the cake. Use cookie dough or marzipan in different colors to shape a whale’s tale (in black), colorful fish and a boat and place on top of the blue jelly. The jelly will look just like water and your cake will resemble the sea with as many sea creatures and boats as you want to add on top!
