Hanukkah Dreidels

"Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of clay.  And when its dry and ready, Oh dreidel I shall play." This is one of children's favorite Hanukkah songs. It makes reference to the dreidel, the most traditional Hanukkah game, a game of luck played with a spinning top (called a dreidel). All players get an equal amount of tokens. They have to put one token in the pot in the center. Then players take turns spinning the dreidel.
Players act according to the letter facing up when the dreidel stops spinning, as follows:

nun: player does nothing hay: player takes half of the tokens in the pot
gimel: player takes all the tokens in the pot

shin: player must put one token into the pot

The winner is the person with the most tokens at the end of the game. Use our chocolate milk coins as tokens... the winner takes it all!

Hanukkah Songs

Singing while lighting candles is another Jewish tradition on this special day.
Find below a Hanukkah song to teach children on this holiday.

"Let's be Happy''
by Malvine P. Hoenig

Sung to the tune of Maos Zur (Rock of Ages)

Let's be happy, let us cheer,
Hanukkah again is here.
All the lights are shining bright,
Isn't it a lovely sight?

You know these lights remind us
Of the time long, long ago,
When God caused one,
tiny light,
for eight long days to shine so bright.
