Halloween Decorations: Floating Ghosts Haunting Your House
This is an inexpensive Halloween decorating idea that will delight kids and adults. All you need are balloons filled with helium and medium sized white garbage bags, one for each balloon.
Cut the edge of the bag in a wavy way. Now put the bag upside down and use a black marker to draw a face on one side of the bag, close to the bottom of the bag.
Next insert a helium balloon inside the bag. You can glue the bottom of the bag to the top of the balloon so it won’t move around or fall off.
If the bag is rectangular, push the bottom corners inside so the round shape of the balloon can be noticed. This will be the ghost’s head and the bag hanging down with wavy edge is the skirt!
Ghosts in All Styles
You can be very creative or, better still, let your kids get creative when making the floating ghosts. Some ghosts can look fierce, others funny or cute. Kids can take their time creating the style of their dress: suggest them to paint buttons, ties, skirts or even a bikini! They’ll also have fun styling their hair: the corners of a rectangular bag can be tied with bands to make ponytails for a cute girl ghost.
Picking Ghosts
Floating Ghosts will not only make perfect Halloween decorations but can also be used to plan party activities. Other than the creativity project described above, there are many games that can be planned with them, such as Picking Ghosts. As garbage bags are light, the balloons will fly up to the ceiling. Kids have to jump and try picking as many as they can in a given time. The taller the kid, the less time they’ll get to pick balloons.
Ghosts Race
Another fun Halloween activity is the Ghost Race. Let each contestant grab a ghost, stand at a start line and hit the balloon as hard as they can and see which gets the farthest!
If you want the balloons to fly at a lower level hang some weight from their string, such as a balloon filled with water. If the weight is too heavy the balloon will stand on the floor and will ‘dance with the wind’ to the rhythm of your party music; if it’s lighter it will just float around the house mingling with the rest of the guests.
You can be sure everyone will remember these fun Halloween decorations!
