Things to Consider When Planning a First Birthday Party

Focus on Your Baby

Think of ways on how to make the party enticing to visitors but don’t lose focus on the main goal of the celebration: the baby’s comfort and happiness. If you concentrate on this your child’s first birthday party will be an event to look back with satisfaction.

You know what your baby enjoys and what he/she hates. You know what time your baby is awake and interactive. Take all this into account when planning their first birthday party.

Invitations

Limit your invitation to a few close friends and relatives, those who have always been there through your first year journey. Let the baby enjoy the day being with people he feels comfortable with. I’m sure you won’t enjoy the day either if you see that he is rattled to be surrounded by many people he is not familiar with.

If you can’t avoid inviting people that he has not met yet, ask them to wear a mask, pin or T-shirt on characters that he loves. My son’s first birthday party theme was Winnie the Pooh. Many guests wore masks on Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet and Tigger. He seemed to have enjoyed a lot being surrounded with his favorite characters.

Kids Safety

If you have kids invited move all breakables out of the way. Also shut away pets that might get aggressive with commotion and noise. Even the calmest dog may get uncomfortable by a bunch of small kids trying to grab its tail! Don’t get this special day ruined by accidents.

Ask for Help

Ask close friends or relatives to help you with the preparation. Have someone to be in charge of the kitchen, the games, pictures and videos, etc. Make a “to do list” and assign a task for each adult that has volunteered to help. Remember that you still have to focus on taking care of your baby.

Pictures of Your Kid’s First Year

Make a video presentation of you and your kid’s accomplishments for the past 12 months. In my son’s first birthday I organized his pictures from birth to 1 year old. I made a video presentation of it with background music. Just make it short but fun to watch, include only the important scenes like his first smile, first day he crawled, first day he walked and all his funny pictures.
