Pirate Party Game Ideas
Each year as my daughter’s birthday gets near she becomes excited about deciding the theme for the party. A sure shot hit with kids is the Pirate Party Theme: they all want to live a pirates’ adventure! It is also easy for parents to plan a party on this theme since there are many pirate party supplies out in the stores and online.
You can easily decorate for a pirate party using pirate flags or pennant banners, palm tree cutouts, plastic gold coins over the table, ‘Beware of Pirates’ signs and even a dotted line marked on the floor around your house using masking tape! Make sure the path leads to a big cross and a treasure!
Here are some Pirate Party Game Ideas that will keep the young buccaneers entertained all party long:
Treasure Hunt… Obviously
As we all know no ‘pirate party’ is complete without the ‘Treasure hunt’ game. You may fill the treasure chest with candies in skull and bone design, chocolate gold coins, and pirate figures. It is best to fill loot bags with these goodies and place inside the treasure chest so that once the kids find it they can pick a goody bag with their name to take home. This will avoid fights over the treasure! Provide kids with a map that gives directions to clues that will help them find the treasure chest. The kids go from one object to the next following the directions in the map and reach the treasure finally.
A Few Tips:
- After you’ve drawn your map, squeeze the paper and burn the edges, roll it up and tie with a piece of string for a real feel of an old treasure map.
- Have available plastic eye patches, hoop earrings, sashes and bandanas to tie around their waist and head. Make this treasure hunt as real as possible: it’s going to be real pirates looking for a treasure!
Cross Over
Kids are required to walk over a long board without falling off. Place cushions at both sides of the board, and for extra fun, make some crocodiles out of cardboard and place them around the cushions.
Wrap the Pirate
Here kids can play in teams of two, one being a doctor and the other a pirate. As soon as the game begins the doctor starts wrapping the injured pirate up and compete with other teams to win the race! Give out ‘pirate party tattoos’ to the winners!
